Digital transformation for the new classrooms of the Politecnico di Bari, featuring the new LAMM study benches as the protagonists

Designed for future-oriented teaching, the new multimedia study benches feature integrated touchscreen displays for adaptable, project-based learning solutions.

This is happening at the Politecnico di Bari – University recognised as a centre of creative excellence for education and research in engineering, architecture and industrial design – where four high-tech digital classrooms have been created at the Ernesto Quagliariello Campus. At the centre of this revolution is the new multimedia study bench by LAMM, a tailor-made product born from the re-engineering of the E4000 and E5000 seating and table systems, modified to accommodate touchscreen monitors with adaptable, project-based solutions.

Blackboards, projectors and paper-based tools are thus replaced by interactive workstations with multitouch screens for students. These workstations allow students to share content in real time with professors, as well as to use artificial intelligence and professional graphic applications. Mixed reality headsets for practical exercises, interactive demonstrations and experiential learning support an increasingly modern and cutting-edge teaching approach.

In the case of the Politecnico di Bari, the 27” monitors are installed on E4000 desks, launching an unprecedented and innovative proposal (patent pending), designed to support the most modern teaching methods. This project features a fixed writing surface made of graphite ABET bilaminate with a front panel, combined with seats and backs in laminated wood with an oak finish, also produced by ABET. The structure is painted black and wood materials used for the supply are FSC® C134805 certified, sourced from responsibly managed forests and other controlled material. High-tech but also accessible environments: the supply is completed by study benches for people with disabilities, with the same finishes and features as the other workstations.

The new LAMM proposal – presented at Salone del Mobile 2026 – inherits the practicality, comfort, resistance and durability of the collections from which it evolves. Adaptable to all types of spaces, it simplifies installation and maintenance. Equipped with an under-surface cable management channel, the desk has an adjustable depth: from 40 cm for 18.5” screens to 60 cm for 27” screens, such as those chosen by Politecnico di Bari.
