E4000 study benches at the new premises of Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome
LAMM integrated desk and seating system has been customised to harmonize with the minimalist style of the interiors, fully respecting the authentic character of the historic spaces.
In the heart of Rome’s multicultural Esquilino district – a vibrant neighbourhood in the city centre – a building that had stood unused since 2017 has been brought back to life through a conservative restoration project. The work has removed the worthless additions accumulated over the years, restoring the original character of this fine example of Art Nouveau architecture. More than a simple renovation: the project is part of a wider urban regeneration initiative, creating a new cultural and creative hub aimed at revitalising the district and providing social and economic value for the area.
The project involved the restoration of the former Magazzini allo Statuto (MAS) complex. Following the renovation process – carried out by Studio Kami Architecture & Engineering with the support of the architectural firm DDArch – the building now houses the Accademia Costume & Moda (ACM), an internationally renowned centre of excellence that has trained designers who have gone on to become leading figures at major fashion houses in Italy and worldwide. Fondo Infrastrutture per la Crescita – Esg of Azimut Libera Impresa Sgr acquired the building and financed the project with an investment of around 20 million euros, giving this iconic landmark in the neighbourhood a new lease of life.
Over 6,000 square metres spread across seven floors, capable of accommodating up to 700 students, house fully digitised classrooms, workshops, new spaces for the library and the fabric library, as well as 250 square metres of terraces and a rooftop designed as recreational and communal spaces.
In this dynamic and innovative context, and in keeping with a design that has sought to respect the genius loci, the E4000 study benches – Lucci and Orlandini are featured, characterised by unconventional finishes and neutral tones. Light-coloured faux leather upholstery and white finishes characterise the integrated system of desk and seating, adapted to the minimalist style of the interiors where the architectural structures and history take centre stage.
The tip-up writing table, in white laminate, is equipped with a “soft-close” closing mechanism, resulting from a patented system. Soft colours are also used for the seats, backrests and front-row panels, all upholstered in light-coloured faux leather to achieve a clean and uniform look. The seat features a controlled and silent closing mechanism, thanks a cushioned automatic return.
All components offer the strength and durability required for educational settings, while integrating elements for power supply and device charging; the desks – arranged in straight rows on steps – are in fact equipped with an electrification system. Durability and sustainability: wood materials used for the supply are, in fact, FSC® C134805 certified, sourced from responsibly managed forests and other controlled material.
